Sea to Sky in the Sunshine: Your Spring & Summer Road Trip Guide

Looking for your next big adventure? Grab your friends, your favourite playlist, and a tank of gas—because there’s no better road trip this spring or summer than the drive from Vancouver to Whistler along the Sea to Sky Highway. Trust us, this isn’t just a drive—it’s an experience.
Sure, Whistler is the ultimate destination (and we’d love to be your home base when you get here), but the journey up is half the fun. With ocean views, waterfalls, epic hikes, and tasty local spots along the way, this stretch of Highway 99 is one of Canada’s most beautiful drives—and it’s waiting for you.
Start in Vancouver
Kick things off in Vancouver, where city life meets the sea. Grab a coffee, maybe wander through Gastown or take a ride around the Stanley Park Seawall. When you’re ready to hit the road, cross the Lions Gate Bridge and watch as the city fades behind you and the mountains start to rise.
Scenic Stops Along the Way
This road trip can be done in under two hours—but why rush? Here are some of our favourite stops to break up the drive:
1. Porteau Cove:
This oceanfront park is a hidden gem. Pull over, breathe in the salty air, and take in the view of Howe Sound. If you’re lucky, you might spot seals or even a whale!
2. Shannon Falls:
Just outside of Squamish, this towering waterfall is a must-see. It’s only a short walk from the parking lot, and the views are breathtaking—especially in the spring when the snowmelt makes the falls roar.
3. The Stawamus Chief:
Feeling active? Try hiking “The Chief”—one of the most famous rock faces in Canada. It’s a tough but short climb, and the views from the top are absolutely worth it.
4. Backcountry Brewing in Squamish:
Take a lunch break in Squamish at Backcountry Brewing. Their wood-fired pizzas are legendary, and the local beers are perfect for toasting a road trip well underway (just not for the driver, of course!).
5. Brandywine Falls:
Just 15 minutes before Whistler, make one last stop at Brandywine Falls. It’s an easy trail and the falls are absolutely massive—a great place for a photo before you roll into town.
Welcome to Whistler
Once you arrive, you’ve officially made it to one of the coolest mountain towns in North America. Whether you’re here to mountain bike, hike, zipline, or just relax with a view, there’s something for everyone. If you want to finish your day on a high note—literally—check out Superfly Ziplines, where you can fly over the valley at 100 km/h!

Need a place to stay? We’ve got you covered. The Crystal Lodge is right in the heart of Whistler Village, steps away from restaurants, shops, and adventure. Park the car and explore on foot—you’ve earned it.
Make This Your Spring or Summer Adventure
The Sea to Sky Highway isn’t just a road—it’s one of the best ways to experience British Columbia’s coast and mountains. Whether it’s a quick weekend trip or part of a longer vacation, this route is all about the journey and the destination.
So what are you waiting for? Pack your bags, hit the road, and make this the spring or summer you remember forever.
