Whistler Turns 50: A Big Birthday Bash You Won’t Want to Miss
Posted on June 19, 2025
This August, Whistler is turning 50 — and if you’ve ever been part of this town, even just for a weekend, you’re invited to the party.
Since 1975, Whistler has grown from a quiet ski town to a world-famous mountain resort. And while a lot has changed over the years, one thing’s stayed the same: this place has heart. Whether you moved here for a season and stayed for a decade, or you’re visiting for the first time — there’s something special about Whistler, and this summer we’re celebrating it in a big way.
Save the Date: August 21–24, 2025
Whistler’s 50th birthday weekend is packed with good music, local love, and mountain-town vibes. The Resort Municipality of Whistler (RMOW) has planned four days of fun that bring together the people, places, and stories that make this town what it is.

Whistler’s 50th birthday weekend is packed with good music, local love, and mountain-town vibes. The Resort Municipality of Whistler (RMOW) has planned four days of fun that bring together the people, places, and stories that make this town what it is.
Here’s what’s going down:
Thursday, August 21: Turn Up the Volume
Kick it all off with a live DJ set from PINEO & LOEB, a Canadian duo known for wild, high-energy shows that mix dance, rock, and hip hop. They’ve played festivals like Shambhala and Burning Man — and now they’re coming to Olympic Plaza, joined by DJ Foxy Moron. It’s going to be a party.
Friday, August 22: Rock the Village
The legendary Sam Roberts Band takes the stage. You probably know them from hits like “Brother Down” and “Where Have All the Good People Gone?” Bring your friends, your lawn chair, and a blanket — this one’s going to fill up fast. Opening act? DJ Whitness, a local fave.
Saturday, August 23: A Day to Celebrate
Picnic in the Plaza, anyone? Saturday’s all about community. Expect live shows, interactive art, food, and fun. Think of it as Whistler’s version of a neighbourhood block party — just with a way better view.
Sunday, August 24: Chill and Reflect
We wind down with mellow music, trail meet-ups, and some time to just take it all in. After 50 years, it’s a good moment to pause, appreciate, and look ahead.

Trailblazers to Tomorrow Makers
That’s the theme this year — a nod to the folks who built Whistler from the ground up, and the next generation who will shape what comes next. It’s not just about looking back, it’s about dreaming forward.
You’ll also see 50th banners popping up all over town, and artwork from local legend Kate Zessel featured throughout the Village. The whole place will have a little extra sparkle.
Local Involvement: Bring Your Own Idea
One of the coolest parts? You can be part of it. The Whistler Community Foundation is offering small grants (from $50 to $500) to help people throw their own mini-events. Potlucks, garden plantings, live music — whatever makes your corner of Whistler shine.
If you’re a business or local group hosting something special that weekend, RMOW wants to hear from you. They’re putting together a community calendar and want to include as many people as possible.
From Then to Now
Fifty years ago, Whistler was just getting started. Now? We’re an Olympic host town, a mountain biker’s dream, a powder hound’s paradise, and a pretty great place to call home. This celebration is for everyone — locals, weekend warriors, and longtime visitors alike.
Whether you’re dancing in the plaza or just strolling through the Village soaking it all in, Whistler’s 50th is a chance to reconnect with what makes this place one of a kind.
Mark your calendar. Tell your crew. We’ll see you in August.
