Whistler Bears are our Biggest Locals
Whistler is known for its amazing outdoor activities and vast areas for bears and other wildlife to roam free.
Whistler is known for its amazing outdoor activities and vast areas for bears and other wildlife to roam free.
Whistler Blackcomb alone has over 8,100 acres of terrain for skiing and over 180km of trails for biking which covers quite a bit of the “backcountry” which is also home to over 70 black bears. Whistler is a bear smart community because we love our bears and want to be able to cohabitate with our furry friends. With over 10,000 full-time residents and over two million visitors, this is not an easy job but the Get Bear Smart Society (GBS) gives us the knowledge and the tools to help this happen.
Bear viewing tours are available on Whistler Blackcomb Mountain which is home to over 70 black bears and cubs. A professional guide will take you out and show you the bears in their natural habitat. You will get to see the mothers feeding the cubs if you are lucky!! The 3-hour tours leave from Blackcomb Village which is not far from our main hotel doors so grab your family (children 9+) and go and explore the nature that awaits you right in our own backyard.
If you would like to join a Bear Viewing tour to see these glorious animals in their natural habitat please contact our Guest Services team via email at [email protected] or call 1.800.667.3363 and they will help you create this memorable experience.
