Whistler Blackcomb Opening Weekend
The lifts and gondolas on Whistler mountain officially started turning for winter 2012-13 season on Saturday November 17th. Whistler village was a buzz of excitement and anticipation on the morning of Opening day. Eager skiers and snowboarders lined up from 10am on Friday morning to ensure they were the first ones to load Whistler gondola. As you would expect the crowds in the line up were stoked to say the least. When they finally started uploading around 8am, spontaneous explosions of cheering roared every time the lift line moved.
The enthusiasm of opening day was definitely very high within the Crystal Lodge Staff as well.
Ken, one of our bellman spent opening weekend between shifts at work "sending killer park laps and throwing down spins on (his) brand new skis". Ashlee on the other hand is in Whistler for her first season from Australia working in our Housekeeping department. Though she spent the weekend working I asked Ashlee why she's beaming with excitement for her first day ever snowboarding at Whistler. "I can't wait to break in my new snowboard kit. Pretty sure I'm going to spend more time tumbling down the hill and finish with a rather bruised body but I just want to get amongst it (the snow) and have some fun"
It was thanks to cool temperatures, impressive snowmaking and natural snowfall that Whistler Blackcomb were able to open Whistler five days early. With five lifts running for opening weekend, the conditions on Whistler mountain were pretty good for November 17th. Nice coverage on the upper mountain and with more snow on the forecast it looks like a promising start to the winter season at Whistler Blackcomb.
A Quality Location
I really can't convey just how good this hotel was: very clean, the staff were very friendly and helpful no matter what time of day it was, very good facilities and amenities especially pool and hot tub great for unwinding at the end of a tiring day, it's in an ideal location everything is close at hand no matter how you are planning to spend your time in Whistler
