Epic Day of Skiing in Whistler with Powder Mountain Catskiing

3rd January, 2013

Ever wonder what skiing in snow so deep that it seems bottomless is like?

This is a common dream for most avid skiers and snowboarders. Most peoples' misconception is that this is only for the professional athletes. That “weekend warriors” should stick to Whistler Blackcomb and the inbound ski and snowboard terrain.

Monty the Moose went out with Powder Mountain Catskiing to find out the truth and experience backcountry powder skiing for himself.

"If you can ski a black diamond run and are a strong snowboarder you can comfortably enjoy our terrain here" – Gord Calder / Manager, Powder Mountain Catskiing

Monty the Moose woke up in a flurry of excitement, rays of sunshine a beaming through the window. A quick check of the snow report says 15cm of new snow at Whistler Blackcomb but the area Powder Mountain skis received 30cm. It's going to be an epic day of skiing and snowboarding. Monty didn't even have to leave the Crystal Lodge to check in and ski valet have already taken care of his skis and transported them to the bus.

The trip to the top of the mountain is almost indescribable. Rays of sunshine bouncing off the glistening snow and leaving shadows behind snow covered pines. When you reach the top the guides go through safety training and then it's time to finally live out that dream.

Monty's crew is a mixture of skiers and snowboarders and the screams and hollers of exhilaration are heard threw out the valley as we put in the first turns. Our guides Steve and Mac took us on seemingly endless powder turns of untouched over the shoulders soft white fluffy snow.

Powder Mountain Catskiing really did have every detail covered, from chocolate bars and lunch, tree runs and untouched open bowls. Photographer Stu Medford was on hand to catch every perfect turn and the occasional tumble. After 9 runs and approximately 9000 vertical metres of powder Monty and the crew stumble back into base at the end of the day, with weary legs and smiles for miles they celebrated what will be one of Monty's best days on snow with a Powder Mountain Lager!

If untouched powder, epic descents and diverse, wild terrain are in your snow dreams than let Powder Mountain Catskiing deliver on your next ski trip to Whistler.

The Crystal Lodge & Suites is now the accommodation partner of choice for Powder Mountain Catskiing which are now based right in the Crystal Lodge and Suites.
