Whistler Outdoor Concert SeriesIf you are looking for things to do this summer, The Whistler Presents Outdoor Concert Series is back and kicks off on June 28th in the Whistler Olympic Plaza just down the Village Stroll from the Crystal Lodge & Suites. This year’s outstanding line up will not disappoint and the best part is the outdoor series is free. Take the family and spend the evening listening to some amazing Canadian and International artists playing everything from country, folk, blues, rock and classical tunes.

Saturday June 28th, Linda Ortega and Barney Bentall and the Grand Caribou Opry hit the stage at 7:30pm and kick off the series with some Juno nominated country tunes followed by Jon and Roy and Said the Whale on the 29th playing some indie rock off the heels of their JUNO award for New Group of the Year.

The month of July is any orchestra lover’s dream, on Tuesday July 1st come and celebrate Canada Day with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra and spend the weekend listening to the String Quartet, The Brass Quintet Chamber and an encore presentation of the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra on the 4th and 5th to help celebrate Independence Day for all of our visiting American friends. On July 16th the Pre-Pemberton Festival Concert headlining Gord Downie from the Tragically Hip will take the stage at 4:30.

The outdoor series continues August 22nd for the last two weekends featuring country music from The Matinee and Alberta born Corb Lund who has received the Canadian Country Music Award (CCMA) for artist of the year seven times. The following night features Kuba Oms and Jarvis Church who have been filling dance floors with their electronic beats and melodies. The following weekend on August 29th take in the sounds of Del Barber and Dallas Smith both country musicians for all of you that missed the opening weekend in June. The following night Messenjah and Rocky Dawuni play a fusion of reggae, African grooves and soul and on the last night of the concert series, August 31, Headwater and Matt Nathanson whose album went platinum in 2007 will take the stage. What an act to end this amazing series with, Matt Nathanson is world famous and has been packing shows all over the US and Canada since the early 90’s.
